PRODUCTS NEEDED FOR MAKING FAUX TINTYPES

  • Transfer print (multiple designs to choose). We also offer blank sheets for printing your own designs with a laser printer. $4.95-$8.95
  • Painted copper sheet. I use 24-26 gauge if it will be used for jewelry and getting handled a lot. Traditional tintypes are 28-30 gauge is you are after making it true to original.  Keep in mind that the thinner (higher number) the metal, the easier it is to cut, but also the easier to get bent.  The half size sheets of transfer prints fit on the 8.25×6 inch metal.  The larger full-size transfer prints will require using more metal.  The smaller metal sheet are good for making extra pieces that didn’t fit in and for circle designs and earrings.  $4-$9
  • Liver of Sulphur for darkening the metal. $11.95
  • Golden soft gel medium either gloss or matte. There will be no difference in the final look, but you might want to use it on other projects that it would affect.  If using this on collage work, even if you want to have your finished piece to be matte, you need to use gloss on the lower layers and finish with matte on the top or your piece will appear cloudy.  $16.95 each
  • Micron polish paper (this comes in the blank paper pack) can be purchased separately. $2
  • Nail file. $1.50
  • Sanding sponge. $2
  • If taking Terri’s class, she is using the shorter ¼ inch copper rivets. $2
  • Finish spray gloss. $16.95

OPTIONAL

  • Rubber stamps would be optional for designs choices.
  • Distress ink optional for adding dimension to the images and hiding flaws.
  • Staz-On ink optional, needed if using the stamps to decorate.
